On the back of winning the UEFA Conference League against Fiorentina (2-1), it feels like these days, everyone wants West Ham Unitedmidfielder Declan Rice. Heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munichby Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenbergand to Arsenal by English media, Rice is in high demand. According to a recent report by The Mirror,Bayern Munich have already made an offer of £95 million (€110m) to West Ham United. But Fabrizio Romano reported ahead of the Conference League final that Arsenal now lead the race for the English midfielder.

Other clubs also interested in the 24-year-old English national team player include Manchester City, andNewcastle United. And for good reason. According to the report by Plettenberg, West Ham would be willing to sell Rice for £70m (€80m), which is the same amount as his Transfermarkt market value and makes him one of the most valuable midfielders on the planet overall.

Although a fair evaluation, that amount is significantly below of what Borussia Dortmund generated by selling Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid earlier this week. In fact, the Bellingham deal could set a benchmark on how much Rice will generate once he has made a decision about his future.“There’s a lot of speculation about my future," Rice said after the Conference League final. "Obviously, there is interest from other clubs, but ultimately, I’ve still got two years left at West Ham.“We will see. I love this club; I’m the captain.” West Ham chairman David Sullivan was more honest in his assessment. "We promised him he could go," Sullivan said to TalkSport. "He set his heart on going."

Everyone wants Declan Rice: More than a cheap Bellingham alternative

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, in particular, is a big fan of the midfielder and is desperateto sign Rice. Tuchel, in fact, has been after Rice dating back to his days as the Chelsea manager. The Bayern Munich head coach views Rice as an aggressive leader, who can give his midfield more steel next to the more creative and offensive-minded Joshua Kimmich. An admiration it appears that can also be found among the decision-makers at Arsenal, who are willing to go toe-to-toe with the German record champions. Then there is also Man City, who could still enter the race too after losing out on Bellingham.

It might be somewhat unfair, however, to describe Rice as a cheaper Bellingham alternative. After all, Rice is more defensively-minded than Dortmund’s super talent. And a quick look at Wyscout underlines that notion. Bellingham has successfully completed 4.43 attacking actions per 90 minutes; Rice has managed just 1.4 per 90 minutes this season. Also while Bellingham has scored 15 goals, Rice has managed to hit the target just six times.

But neither Bayern nor Man City are likely looking for their new midfielder to contribute much in the attack anyhow. Bayern want a player that they have not had since Javi Martínez’s prime, and Man City will need to find a successor for Ilkay Gündogan. And indeed, Rice is the sort of tidy impact player both those clubs are craving. Rice leads Bellingham in accurate passes completed (90.63% vs 85.29%), defensive duels won (70.67% vs 61.49%), and passes per 90 minutes (51.01 vs 47.98).

Declan Rice – Who will win the race for the West Ham star?

At first glance, Man City would appear to have deeper pockets than Bayern Munich and Arsenal. Furthermore, the English champions, unlike Bayern, do not need to make space in midfield as Gündogan’s departure becomes ever more likely. But Tuchel has laid some groundwork dating back to his time with Chelsea and has been recently in contact with Rice’s family directly over a potential transfer—the midfielder is represented by his father, Sean.

But what about Newcastle and Arsenal? Newcastle have already qualified for the Champions League. Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe, similar to Tuchel and Guardiola, is considered a charismatic manager for whom players like to play. But is that enough to convince Rice to move up north to Newcastle? Furthermore, Howe has already admitted that this upcoming window will be the most difficult yet and that Newcastle could shy away from paying big transfer fees in an attempt to stay within Financial Fair Play rules.

Then there is Arsenal, with Rice’s past at Chelsea and West Ham, that deal seemed unlikely. But Rice is happy in London and reportedly would prefer staying in the city and play in the Premier League. Who will win the race for Rice? A player, who could be the most impactful signing for whoever club lands him. Because one thing is for certain, the English midfielder is much more than just a consolation prize for losing out on Bellingham.
